Long Island Wine Country 50th anniversary Celebrations were eclectic, approachable and unique.
The Long Island Wine Country recently marked a significant milestone as it celebrated 50 years since the first vineyard was planted by Alex and Louisa Hargrave in Cutchogue. The local community came together to show their support and appreciation for the region’s rich history and the hard work and dedication put in by the Hargraves, which paved the way for the thriving wine industry in the area. It was a momentous occasion that highlights the enduring legacy of the Hargraves and the continued growth and success of Long Island’s wine industry.
The Magnum event occurred Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at Peconic Bay Vineyards in Cutchoge, New York, along the North Fork of Long Island Wine Trail. Five stations featured different wine styles, poured by friendly hospitality members from each winery. It was a great experience to witness the camaraderie between the winemakers and enjoy the various producers, each with its unique flavor profile. The event celebrated Long Island Wine Country’s anniversary with a mix of elegance and approachability, showcasing eclectic decor and food in a friendly atmosphere. The delicious food pairings showcase the connection between farm-to-table and grape-to-glass. Over a dozen top East End restaurants, such as Braun’s Seafood, The Frisky Oyster, North Fork Table & Inn, PAWPAW, Love Lane Kitchen, & Noahs, served delicacies during the event. Nibbles were a true delight starting with Long Island Oysters, Sterling Caviar, North Fork Potato Chips, and Gourmet Food’s International selection of cheese and charcuterie.
Long Island Wines produces quality wines thanks to the cool maritime climate that allows a wide range of varieties to thrive, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Gewurztraminer, Viognier, Merlot, and Semillon.

Before the Grand Tasting Event, there was a Trade and Media Event hosted back in June at Manhattan’ iconic Temple Court now The Beekman Hotel, where some of our Ambassadors could participate and express their opinions about Long Island Wines. For instance, Marina Mendieta, New York, and New Jersey Ambassador, mentions her excitement to participate in the event to improve her knowledge of Long Island wine and wineries. “The media and portfolio tasting provided a firsthand experience of Long Island’s best wines. I was impressed by the quality and modern take on traditional labels. It was remarkable to see canned and sparkling wines of incredible quality, and the lunch pairing was exquisite.”
